The Banquet |
Wednesday, September 27, 2006 |
We decided to go out for some seafood. There was this place that sold cheap and nice seafood. So 8 of us went. 7 b-med students plus one. The food was quite good and reasonably priced. We had 2kgs of crab, prawns, fish, tofu, and veg. A scrumptious spread for the 8 of us. In addition, to wash it down, we had a coconut water-based alcohol of sorts. Not quite malibu, but still interesting to the palate. We had a great time chowing down the food and chatting about past events, but unfortunately this post is not dedicated to that feast. Its dedicated to another banquet, namely the one starring Zhang Ziyi. So we decided to go catch a movie. One of my housemates had the sudden flash of inspiration. Upon looking up the showtimes for all the movies, somehow we decided on the banquet. Actually I kinda suggested it cos at the time it was the only movie off the top of my head and I remembered that I read some reviews. The Banquet is every inch an epic scaled art film - deeply theatrical, stunningly beautiful, filled with intriguing contradictions, and a surprisingly faithful adaptation of the source material. Plus, the movie starrs Zhang Ziyi, Daniel Wu, Zhou Xun, and the fight scenes were directed by Yuen Wo Ping(Crouching Tiger hidden Dragon!). I want to kill whoever wrote that review. The movie sucked so bad I now have trouble writing about what I hated about it. It was boring, stupid, ridiculous, It was just a downright waste of time. I'm still so utterly disgusted that I am at a loss for words. I have to say Yuen Wo Ping and his fight scenes were great, but if I ever see director Feng Xiao Gang, or Zhang Ziyi, I'm asking for 2 and a half hours of my life back.

The birth of blogging |
Thursday, September 21, 2006 |
So far I've had a few comments about how no one expects me to have a blog. According to them I'm not the kind of person to have a blog. Normally I would agree, but recent events have changed that, obviously. So I've been thinking about what makes a person blog. What mysterious force of nature compels someone to sit down at their computer and type out their innermost thoughts, laying it all out for the world to read? Is it a sudden burst of inspiration? Or the overwhelming need to share our thoughts with the world? My friends, I have the answer and for me the answer is simple.
Boredom
Yes my friends, the answer is simple, I'm bored. If neccessity is the mother of invention, then boredom is the father of my illegitimate blog. I blog now 'cos I'm bored. I'm stuck in the lab, often in the clean room and human interaction is kept to a minimum. Don't get me wrong, my other colleagues are great people, but it has to be said that we pretty much keep to ourselves these days. Everyone is engrossed in their own research and we don't go out much. I've pretty much spent most of the day without saying more than 10 sentences on average. I'm not really complaining, just a frank statement. So there it is! Mystery solved. I still do hope that even though its mainly written out of boredom, my blog still makes a compelling read and that it inspires you to greater heights.
ps. you know that void in your life that you have? it can be filled by simply leaving comments in my blog. Seriously.

Success! |
Wednesday, September 20, 2006 |
Finally, I've found a template that I like, (and works!) granted there are a few kinks to be ironed out and some tweaking but I think I've done a pretty good job for a noob. I should get some sleep. Its 5.21am and I'm still awake. Hmmm... I was going to wake up early tmr but don't think thats going to happen, I'll probably go into the lab sometime after lunch.
My head is spinning
I'm so tired now that my head is spinning. I've been sitting at the laptop for hours just trying to get this darned thing to work. I suck at this.
My vision's getting blurry
Must... fight... to.. finish... entry..... I've spent way too much time on the damn layout. A thought provoking/witty/inspirational entry will just have to wait.
I'm getting some sleep

I'm clueless |
Tuesday, September 19, 2006 |
I've been trying to find a nice template for my blog, but so far they either don't work properly or just don't appeal to me. I'm still in the midst of a nice one so please bear with me while I try to find a nice one. And if any of you know how to create a template, let me know. Really interested to create one of my own. thanks |

Money can't buy happiness |

Money can't buy happiness
I totally understand the rationale behind this statement. Its a feel good statement for people who don't have enough money. At the very least, they have this statement to fall back on and say "I'm happy and money can't buy happiness."
Rubbish
While I have to agree that money can't buy happiness, I want/need more money. Who doesn't? Money may not be able to buy happiness, but like the second part goes, it can certainly help you look for it in the best places. Why am I suddenly talking about money? I'm broke. So many things to pay for, so little money. I dare you to tell me that you won't be happier with more money. I'm not saying that you should trade your relationships for money, just saying that everyone would be happier with more. Here's to more money for all.
